The night shift game that teaches you to spot what doesn’t belong
The conveyor hummed under harsh lights as parcels slid past. A junior peeled off a few address labels and stuck on new ones that looked almost right. At the end, the senior checker tapped each box once and called it: genuine, or swapped.
The supervisor said the old drill was daft. They used to slap a blank sticker on a few boxes and ask trainees to guess the missing address. Real parcels don’t arrive with a big sign saying “something’s missing”, so the practice never matched the job.
Now the job is flipped. The checker doesn’t guess blanks. The checker inspects what’s already there, box after box, and answers a simple yes or no each time: does this label belong, or did the junior swap it? Takeaway: you learn quicker when every box counts.

When the drill ends, the senior checker stays on the line and the junior goes back to other jobs. The little troublemaker was only there to make realistic mistakes for practice. The thing you keep is the strong checker, ready to be taught new routes and rules, without burning so much time on the old blank-sticker routine.
